Sleep-in Snuggle Sundays...

At our house we enjoy our favorite day...Sunday! It's the only day Brad & I have off together, we get to sleep in fairly late. Snuggling in late with our favorite furry family is the best day of the week...we call them Sleep-in Snuggle Sundays. We get excited if we have the chance to take advantage of our day. When I was trying to figure out what to call our blog...I figured what better way to describe our life, but our favorite day....

Birds of a feather....

My husband Brad has been a bird fan for sometime.  When we started dating he had (2) birds already.  One of which did not care for me at all....(I was the 'other' woman).  I, was a Tweety Bird collector before I met him, and even some after we were together.  So our 'birdie' facination has grown to 5 birds total now in our humble home :)

We have a LoveBird (used to have 2, but we lost one a few years ago).  His name is Sylvester.  He isnt handled so we cant pet him or get him out. :(  He is a looker though.  Very pretty peach face.  His little chirps are cute & not too loud.  His worst habit is taking his food bowl out of its window and letting it spill all over the place.  We now have a lock on it so he cant do that anymore..lol

Joey was Brads first bird.  She is a Quaker Parrot.   She is VERY territorial with her cage.  She will strike very fast...but if you open her door and let her walk out on her own...she is soo lovable.  She loves to talk, preen & cuddle.  They thought she was a 'he' until their 'he' started laying eggs one day...lol...now when she lays her eggs we have to get them out :( for her mothering instincts take over and she sits on them all day :( it is very sad to see.  I wish we could find her a suitable beau so she can have the babies...she would be a good mommy.

This is a photo of Crackers (R.I.P.) He is a Quaker Parrot like Joey.  We 'rescued' him from a family that his owner had passed away & the family new we had other birds.  He was a CrAzY bird!!!....he chewed thru his cage bars to make sure he could get out when he wanted.  He never left his cage side, but he was very protective of it.  He would just perch right on top & chirp all day...very happy.  Last fall (2009) we lost Crackers.  He was spooked by something, took flight in the house & hit the hallway wall :(  I new it didnt look good.  He died the next afternoon :(  I was heartbroken.  He was a funny bird, always had the last word.  He is missed ....

This is Sampson.  We were given him in January of '09.  His previous owner worked and traveled too much so she wanted to place him with a home that could give him the attention he needed.  Sampson is a Male Eclectus Parrot.  The males & females are different in color.  Sassy (Brads first Eclectus) is a female.  She differs by a beautiful burgandy/hunter green/yellow color.  Sampson is 'frisky' and will only come to me.   He loves his toys & squaks very loud when playing with them.  He does speak, he will say 'come on' & 'step up' when he wants you to pick him up.

Sassy (not pictured) is Brads baby.  She was very much abused before he got her.  She has really transformed since he has had her.  She loves just about anyone now.  She still does not like feet.  She had been kicked alot before we got her.  She wasnt too set on me for a while until I had to start taking care of her while Brad was in the Navy.  She is very vocal.  She will say "hello" when the phone rings...and even start a conversation "what are yoooou doing? uh huh, okay...goodbye"..its really funny to hear.  She can also say her name, she will talk to Joey "come here Joey" or "Jooooey...what are you doooing Joooey?"  She is by far our most vocal.  "pretty girl" is another as well as a bunch of mumbling when the house is quiet.  She will just mumble all sorts of words we still havent figured out.  She laughs too...lol...its funny.
This is Rocco!
Rocco is a Bare-Eyed Cockatoo.  He is our newest addition to our family.  We are his second home he's been in.  The first family he had was great.  The have had him since birth, but life was moving fast & kids were growing up.  They wanted to make sure he was getting the amount of attention he needed.  So here he is...at our house :)  He is adjusting very well.  He says "hello Rocco" and "night Rocco"..and he BARKS LIKE A DOG!!!  Anytime I leave the room, he starts barking!  Its hilarious!  He is very cuddly & loves to have his feathers pet.  We have only had him a week now...we are still learning new things :)
